Description
A Beautiful Book Tour is a brash farce about the absurdity of an older American woman meeting a younger K-drama male star who falls instantly in love with her. It was written in protest of K-dramas that end up with the lovers possibly, just maybe, holding hands in the last episode.
Emi Kaye is the author of Park Hae Jin Does the Kama Sutra or the Sweetest Story Ever Told. She is invited to Korea by an unknown person to meet Park Hae Jin, handsome star of many K-dramas and the subject of her book. They hit it off and immediately make love. She returns to the United States.
Mr. Park sets up a book tour with his agency to sell her book and get to know her better. However, he already ‘knows’ her quite well and is constantly in a sexual heat to be with her. He colludes with his bodyguards and translator to cover up their relationship, because K-drama fans in Korea do not like ‘their’ stars to date or get married. Unexpectedly, Emi turns out to be quite charming and funny.
Plagued by well wishers and reporters, the bodyguards and translator become key characters in Hae Jin’s and Emi’s romance. They hide things, explain, act as decoys, clean up messes, cook, and do yardwork.
The story alternates between explicit love scenes and comic coverups. The scatological comically comes into play when Emi turns a bathroom into a hazmat location after eating a bad fruit bar. There are several strange bathroom scenes.
There are two weddings. One is in Las Vegas in the United States where an Asian hate incident occurs as Hae Jin’s and Emi’s room gets blown up. Their honeymoon is in Albuquerque. They are forced to bring the bodyguards along because of the incident in Las Vegas. The second wedding is on Jeju Island with about 5000 fans in attendance at a stadium. They depart to Malaysia for their second honeymoon.
